Today I was having a discussion with Ms. Szilagyi, our VP of Client Strategies, about branding and how people often think that branding is something you do.
Branding is not an action.
Branding is a mindset that says you are purposeful in your communications with the world. That every action and message that comes from your company is well thought out in terms of corporate identity, delivery and the message itself. And, how well these things align with your company's values.
When we talk about action and communication it's important to note that we are talking about action and communication in every shape and form regardless of audience. Many businesses do a great job at 'communicating their brand' to the world only to treat their employees, partners and vendors much differently than they treat their customers.
This is a crucial point to understand - if you want to truly live your brand's values you must exercise those values with all audiences. For example, think of a highly prestigious company. How are you treated by this company? Chances are that you, the customer, are treated like royalty. And chances are that this company also treats its employees like royalty. It's what makes for a complete and honest brand... LIVING your brand from the inside, out.
