Recently while traveling to Las Vegas for a little R & R, we stopped in Barstow, CA for a 'bio-break' and to grab a snack. My wife and I chose to stop at Del Taco like we always do. We choose to stop at this restaurant over the others each and every time not because we feel Del Taco serves the best food on the planet, but because the owner of this particular franchise location "gets it."

What do I mean by this?

Every time you stop at this location you will find that the restaurant is immaculate. The condiments and napkins are always stocked and in neat order. The bathrooms are HUGE and extremely clean. They even serve items on the menu that are unique to the Barstow locations.

Why is this a big deal?

It's a big deal because if you have ever stopped in this area you know that there are many fast food restaurants and gas stations in the vicinity. This area caters to people that are traveling - it's right off the freeway near a location where two freeways come together. And if you've been in this area you will also know that like many 'truck stop' type of locations, the eateries are not the most desirable places to eat or use the restroom.

The owner of this franchise location "gets it" because they know that while the added expenses of having large and clean restrooms, well-stocked and neatly-arranged condiments and clean tables and floors do not ever show up in the 'plus' column, these expenses do in fact lead to higher revenues. People specifically stop at this location because of those reasons. And many times those people buy something.

Next time you go on a cost-cutting frenzy - think about it.
